My sister and I had the horrible task of planning our father’s funeral. It was not expected, and it definitely took its toll on both of us. The only peace we had was knowing that our father had accepted Jesus as his Savior, so we would see him again. Having to plan a funeral though, that was rough regardless. We only handled the necessary parts, knowing that we could look at monuments in Morristown NJ down the road since it was not something that would be done right away anyway. We just had to focus on getting through the viewings and actual funeral first.
We took our time getting his headstone, but we finally picked out a day about three months after he went to Heaven. We knew that it was something that had to be done, and we decided to quit stalling. The company who handled the headstone really made it much easier for us. We had never went through this process before, so we had no idea what to do. The person who helped us was very kind and considerate. She asked us questions and gave us some suggestions. Truth be known, we could not have gotten through this without her help.
The headstone that we ended up with is just gorgeous. It really highlights who our father was. His name is etched onto the granite along with the dates of his life. We also have his face etched on there because we always want to be able to see that when we go to the cemetery to spruce up the area around his grave. It is a bit bigger than the other tombstones in the area, but that is okay because our father had always been bigger than life to both of us. It is just fitting that his tombstone is the same way!
