Shareholders Still Supports F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone

Shareholders Still Supports F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone

Majority shareholder of the Formula One Group, CVC, choose to “watch and wait” bribery-related cases being attacked President and CEO of F1, Bernie Ecclestone.

Previously, German prosecutors indict Ecclestone bribery. The charges relate to the payment of 44 million U.S. dollars to a German banker, Gerhard Gribkowsky, from Bayern Landesbank (BayernLB) related to the sale of shares of Formula 1. Ecclestone party has six weeks to respond, since the indictment was launched last week.

Last week also, CVC issued a formal statement will monitor this case. This week, the source of the CVC told the Daily Telegraph that they support the 82-year-old British entrepreneur is.

Suppose after going through the legal process he is proven guilty, Ecclestone leadership must be willing to remove the seat. The next question is, who is the best candidate to fill the position place?

Sources Daily Telegraph stated that Ecclestone replacement will likely come from outsiders. Formula 1 currently has 313 staff and 10 senior managerial positions. None of them are worthy to replace Ecclestone.

“This business is too small to have a replacement candidate from within. Successor will almost certainly come from outside,” said the source.

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner is one of the so-called replacement candidate Ecclestone. However, most of the names come from the world outside of F1, including Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King and former M & S boss Sir Stuart Rose.

“I do not know if companies such as Sainsbury’s boss could do my job. Maybe he could,” Ecclestone told the Guardian newspaper last April, when the King entered the name as a candidate.

However, it seems that the shareholders are not in a hurry to find a replacement candidate.

“The reality is that Bernie is running a business and he is much better understand what was going on than us,” continued the source of the CVC. “We clearly have an important role for our shareholders, but we do not run this business, day after day, in detail.”

Susie Wolff set for full Formula 1 test for Williams

Susie Wolff set for full Formula 1 test for Williams

Susie Wolff will have her first full Formula 1 test at the wheel of a Williams in this week’s ‘young-driver’ test at Silverstone.

The Scot will drive on Friday, with race driver Pastor Maldonado in action on Thursday, while Spaniard Daniel Juncadella is set to test on Wednesday.

Teams are being allowed to run race drivers for one day at the test on 17-19 July to evaluate new tyres.

Wolff, 30, is currently the development driver for Williams.

She raced in the DTM German touring car championship for seven years before quitting the series to concentrate on her work with the British outfit.

Born: 6/12/82, Oban, Scotland

Role: Williams development driver

Previous racing experience: 2006-12 DTM German touring cars. Always driving at least a year-old car; best result ninth. 2005 – Formula Three in UK; 2001-4 – Formula Renault in UK

Married to Toto Wolff, Mercedes director of motorsport and executive director (business) Mercedes F1 team. Shareholder in Williams

It is not the first time Wolff has driven an F1 car – she had a familiarisation test with Williams last October and was the first to drive the team’s 2013 car this year at an aerodynamic test in February, and described the Silverstone test as “a fantastic opportunity”.

Wolff added: “It’s going to be a big challenge but the most important thing is to do a solid and consistent job and to give good feedback to the team to be able to prove I am at the level to compete on a day such as this.

“Most of my work is based in the simulator which is why this day is so important for me.

“It will give me a better understanding of what the car is like on track and how that correlates to the simulator which will also help further develop the work I can do there.

“I am not naive enough to think it will be easy. I know it’s going to be tough and a big challenge but the team have prepared me well and I just need to believe in myself. I will go out there and do the best I can.”

The last woman to enter the F1 world championship was Italian Giovanna Amati, who failed to qualify for three races with Brabham in 1992 before being dropped. The last woman to race an F1 car was Italian Lella Lombardi in 1976.

Only two other teams have so far confirmed their line-ups.

Lotus will use Kimi Raikkonen on the final day of the test with Frenchman Nicolas Prost – the son of four-time world champion Alain Prost – driving on Wednesday and reserve driver Davide Valsecchi on Thursday.

McLaren and Red Bull have chosen not to use their race drivers.

Reserve driver Gary Paffett (Friday) and young drivers Kevin Magnussen and Oliver Turvey will test the McLaren.

Portuguese Antonio Felix Da Costa, a contender for a Toro Rosso seat in 2014, will take the first two days for Red Bull, with Spain’s Carlos Sainz coming in on Friday.

Sauber will use Nico Hulkenberg on Thursday, and split the rest of its programme between reserve driver Robin Frijns and Japanese former Formula 3 driver Kimiya Sato.

The ‘young-driver’ test is an attempt to allow teams to try out drivers who have not yet raced in F1 – the rules dictate that those taking part must have competed in no more than two grands prix.

But this stipulation was waived following the problems at the British Grand Prix to allow Pirelli to try out its new tyre design on the track that had caused the most problems.

A series of problems all contributed to six drivers suffering blowouts during the race.

Although Pirelli said the manner in which the teams were operating the tyres was partially to blame, the biggest single cause is believed to have been a weakness in the construction of the 2013 tyre at the shoulder, where the sidewall meets the tread.

Pirelli has decided to revert to the construction used in 2012,which has a stronger shoulder, from the Hungarian Grand Prix, but combined with the softer rubber compounds used so far in 2013.

As there were no similar problems last year, none are expected with the new design, but the Silverstone test gives Pirelli a chance to make sure before the teams reach the races at Spa in Belgium and Suzuka in Japan, which make even more extreme demands of the tyres.

Mercedes will not feature at the test because of their ban for taking part in the controversial Pirelli tyre test.

Jorge Lorenzo: I Already Ordinary race for Injury Conditions

Jorge Lorenzo: I Already Ordinary race for Injury Conditions

Twice a really bad accident did not dampen the spirit of the MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo to race forward again. He still comes to the Laguna Seca circuit ahead of the first official practice of MotoGP in the U.S. ninth series. The Spaniard was stated, if the doctors permit, he would not hesitate to join the race on Sunday (21/07/2013) this. Because he was used to performing in a state of physical injury at Laguna Seca.
Three weeks ago Lorenzo suffered a fatal crash during the official practice ahead of the Dutch GP in Assen. Two broken collarbone and had surgery. Two days after surgery pen installation, the Spaniard severe fall while racing at Sachsenring Circuit, Germany. The incident resulted in the messy pen and must be reinstalled with eleven screws.
But apparently he did not give up. Through twitter twitter he was ready to appear at the U.S. GP and wait for recovery from injury to perform at the Indianapolis circuit. But he was still present at Laguna Seca, ready should be allowed to perform, he would appear.
“This is my second surgery on the left shoulder blade in a month’s time. Clearly there is still pain. But it felt my condition was better than the time at Assen. At that time I was just a day of rest, whereas now I have a week recovering. So conditions I am better than at Assen, but it was worse than the time in Germany, “he said.
Different from the previous statement when he said he would not appear at Laguna Seca. Problem was he said, initially he did not think was possible appeared at Laguna Seca.
“I think I am better at home calm. But then the incidents experienced by Dani (Pedrosa, Repsol Honda) at the Sachsenring, it opens my chances to seize the top position. Anyway I feel better condition the body is in two the last day. Here’s what changed my mind to perform, “he said.
Lorenzo know very well the physical condition of the track at Laguna Seca and never had the experience of performing in the circuit in poor fit.
“The circuit has many changes of direction, up and down and very short trajectory. We have to face 30 laps or more. In healthy physical condition it is difficult to finish the race there, now imagine if we are in a state of injury as I am today. But I’ve got thoughts raced there in a state of injury as well. In 2008 I raced there with an ankle injury and two on the first lap I was memetahkan back two wrist. In 2009 I do not break the scapula, but an injury to the ligaments of the shoulder muscles, so I race there with conditions the weight and finish in third position. In 2011, I fell and injured during the official practice waist but not too seriously, so I do a lot of racing experience in injured condition in the circuit, “he said.
Concretely, Lorenzo said, depending on the development of the last two days. “Tomorrow we’ll see. Mornings at Laguna is usually very cold, foggy, and humid. Calm and we should see other drivers before entering the track.’s Very important so as not to fall and lose points,” said Lorenzo.

Red Bull help Austria Grand Prix seal a Formula One return in an increasingly packed 2014 schedule

Red Bull help Austria Grand Prix seal a Formula One return in an increasingly packed 2014 schedule

A July 6 date was confirmed on Tuesday by Red Bull, the energy drinks company founded by Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, which owns the eponymous Red Bull Formula One team and also the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg in the Styrian Alps.

Mateschitz is a close friend of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The Red Bull statement simply said: “Dietrich Mateschitz [Red Bull owner] and Bernie Ecclestone have reached agreement to the effect that Formula 1 will come back to Styria next year.”

The Red Bull Ring, formerly known as the A1-Ring, was mooted as a possible venue to fill the gap left vacant in this calendar by the withdrawal of the New Jersey GP.

Although in the end no deal was struck, Mateschitz has made no secret of his desire to see Formula One return to the circuit. The deal will be taken as a sign of his increasing power and influence.

A beautiful venue, its remote location and lack of infrastructure has counted against it, although Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko was adamant last winter that such concerns were “nonsense”, arguing that it “managed well enough in the 1970s and 1980s”. It hosted its last race in 2003 before Red Bull revamped it.

The July 6 date has already caused plenty of speculation about what the knock-on effect might be on the rest of the calendar.

With the governing body ruling out a clash with Le Mans 24 Hours (June 14-15) from now onwards, there are plenty of races and few spare weekends. Russia and New Jersey are both due to join the calendar, which could make 22 in total if all 19 from this season survive.

Added to the return of in-season testing, and winter testing starting earlier than usual due to the advent of the 1.6-litre turbo engines, 2014 looks like being the longest and busiest season in Formula One history.
