Vincent Kompany: New Players Make Man City Stronger

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes recruits players for City would put his side diluting the gap with Manchester United in terms of squad depth.

City failed to repeat last season’s achievement of the previous season after they trailed by 11 points than United, who eventually clinched long before last week.

Early this season, City players bring new kinds of Stevan Jovetic, Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas, and Fernandinho along with new manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Kompany believes a new power will mendatakan title next season. “We played a great part in the transfer market so far,” said Kompany as reported by Soccerway.

“There is a little gap between us and the champions last season and we did everything to attenuate the distance.”

“It will be a good season and I’m sure other teams will also be competitive. We are a team who can look forward and say we will compete on all fronts,” said the Belgian national team players.

Arsenal win for Wenger on Japanese return

Giroud sent the visitors on their way after just three minutes at a packed Toyota Stadium before Japanese midfielder Ryo Miyaichi got his debut Arsenal goal from the penalty spot. England’s Theo Walcott added a third after half-time before Kisho Yano gave Nagoya reason to cheer with a consolation strike 18 minutes from the end.

“Of course it was a special event with almost a full crowd,” Wenger said afterwards. “I think especially in the first half we played with great fluency, created many chances and the game was very interesting.

“In the second half, we were capable of maintaining the pace but we lost a bit of cohesion. Above all it was a very interesting game.”

Arsenal had scored 14 goals in their games against the Indonesian Dream Team and Vietnam and there was no let-up in front of a record 42,919 fans — many of them red-shirted — in Toyota.

With the action barely underway, Tomas Rosicky supplied the cross as Giroud climbed for a header which he buried past Nagoya goalkeeper Seigo Narazaki.

Wenger deployed Miyaichi from the start and when Marcus Tulio Tanaka handled in the box, the promising youngster buried the spot-kick on 26 minutes for his first Arsenal goal and a 2-0 lead.

Walcott was denied by the ‘keeper’s legs as Arsenal pressed for a third, while Yoshizumi Ogawa nearly reduced the arrears but scuffed his shot harmlessly.

Arsenal resumed their assault after the break but Nagoya came close when their Australia striker Josh Kennedy volleyed over an empty goal under pressure from two defenders.

Walcott repeatedly threatened for Arsenal and he stole in for their third goal — after a sumptuous pass from 16-year-old Gedion Zelalem — with a lifted shot over Nagoya ‘keeper Narazaki.

The night was Arsenal’s but Nagoya were rewarded for their efforts when Kisho Yano planted a firm header past Lukasz Fabianski after a high cross from the right. “We didn’t give up, we tried until the end to score a second goal,” said Nagoya coach Dragan Stojkovic, who played under Wenger at the Japanese club.

“It was a memorable day, a memorable game. Of course, they can go home very satisfied.” Arsenal, hoping to end an eight-year trophy drought this season, now travel to Saitama where they will play Japan’s Urawa Reds on Friday.

Wenger had an 18-month stint as Nagoya manager before joining Arsenal in 1996 and embarking on a run which has yielded three Premier League titles and four FA Cup wins.

“The tournament began as a way to get high school teammates together in the summer to compete.  Our mission is to help all involved; players get to work on team concepts, coaches get to see the development of their players and everybody has a blast!”

A number of local area teams were well represented including teams from Braintree, Marshfield, Duxbury, Whitman-Hanson, Cardinal Spellman, Catholic Memorial and last summer’s champs from Franklin High School.

“This was an easy sell for our guys,” said Braintree head coach Brian Chamberlain, who is only an observer at the competition. Volunteers coach the teams and each team has a 20-man rosters. Each player pays $20 to participate in the competition.

And best of all, Under Armour provides two compression shirts, a pair of black shorts and other surprises for each athlete.

“The competition is excellent and for myself and our coaching staff, we get a chance to see the guys in competition. It’s a great environment.”

The Wamps were competing for the first time and impressed the third-year coach in their opening game against Framingham High School.

“I believe we have significantly upgraded our team at the skilled positions. Our tight end, Derek Anson, is looking really good,” said Chamberlain. “Anson has put a lot of time and effort in the off- season and it is paying huge dividends. He is poised for a big season.”

The Sectional finalists (South, North and East) along with the wild card selections will compete for the North East Regional title on Tuesday, July 30 at Bishop Fenwick High School. The competition begins at 5 p.m., and continues until completion around 10 p.m.
